Growing up in the UK, you were raised by a Greek father and a Jamaican mom. Do you believe these multicultural influences have helped you to be creative?
It is creatively interesting to me because I enjoy music from different cultures and listen too a lot of stuff. I love Brazilian music. Jamaican music is my favorite, but it's not only reggae. There are many other delights in Jamaica. I love Greek music, Turkish, Middle Eastern, and Indian music. American music is appealing to me, with soul, jazz and gospel. It's possible that my response to this music is a result of being mixed or if I just like it. Many musicians I have met like weird things, and I learn things by talking to them. It could be both.
Who was your inspiration growing up?
Lauryn Hill was a favorite of mine, I loved her Fugees songs and I loved singing people. I also loved music that I could dance too. However, I found that I was more responsive to female singers such as Gill Scott, Erykah badu, best replica watches and Ella Fitzgerald. She is my favourite singer. Billie Holiday is also a great singer, but I found her more appealing later. Sade has a beautiful tone and is so sophisticated and elegant. Her songs were always on the right note, which was something I loved about her music. India Arie was my favorite singer when I was around 11-12 years old. I also loved the fact that she could play guitar.
Do you know anyone who would be interested in a duo?
Yes, Sade. I would love the opportunity to sing with Sade. Emiliana Torrini, an Icelandic vocalist, would be a great choice. Her voice is pure, angelic, heavenly and siren. She is incredible.
Which part of being a musician is your favorite? Is it performing or creativity?
Creative side. I think it's because I'm recording and writing right now. It is very different. I also love performing. Writing allows you to discover things you didn't know existed, and you can take them where you want.breitling replica watches Performance allows you to express yourself in a new way.
What are your plans for the new year?
I'm just writing until I have enough material to call an album. I am learning as many new chords as possible, and I am trying to get rid of my old chord progressions. I am looking to expand my knowledge and learn new things. I also listen to a lot of music.
